Freedom 4 Youth uplifts and empowers youth that are involved in or impacted by the criminal legal system through healing-centered, restorative, and youth-led solutions. Through legal advocacy, diversion, culturally responsive programs, and case management support, we disrupt cycles of criminalization and address the root cause of substance use—creating real pathways to accountability, healing, long-term stability, and transformative systems change.

OUR PROGRAMS & SERVICES...

Freedom 4 Youth operates a community-based center in Goleta and delivers services throughout Santa Barbara County for youth and young adults ages 12–26 who are system-impacted or at risk of involvement in the criminal legal system. Services are relationship-centered, healing-focused, and designed to reduce barriers, strengthen families, and support long-term stability.

Freedom 4 Youth’s work is organized across four core program areas:

1. Legal Advocacy & Restorative Justice Diversion
Freedom 4 Youth provides legal advocacy and coordinated restorative diversion for youth facing charges, probation, or active system involvement. Services emphasize accountability, repair, and growth rather than punishment. Supports include legal rights education, court accompaniment and navigation, diversion coordination, restorative circles, participatory defense advocacy, and family legal education.

2. Healing-Centered Case Management & Family Support
Youth receive individualized, culturally responsive case management focused on both immediate stabilization and long-term goals. Supports include goal planning, crisis intervention, family engagement and mediation, mental health and substance use recovery referrals, probation compliance support, and school reconnection services.

3. Youth Leadership, Civic Engagement & Systems Advocacy
Youth leadership is central to Freedom 4 Youth’s model. Participants build leadership skills and engage in civic participation and systems advocacy rooted in lived experience. Activities include leadership cohorts, peer mentorship, policy advocacy and public testimony, community education, youth-led research, and participatory defense storytelling and organizing.

4. Education, Workforce Pathways & Long-Term Stability
Freedom 4 Youth supports youth in reconnecting to education and entering the workforce with long-term stability goals. Supports include academic tutoring and credit recovery, school advocacy, workforce readiness and job placement, career exploration and paid training opportunities, life skills development, and financial capability coaching.
