SBUSD has an intentional focus on creating and maintaining positive learning environments that value relationships, equity, and social-emotional growth. We aim to offer early and ongoing support to students and families using the Santa Barbara Unified School-Based Mental Health Services Referral Model. We also offer district virtual wellness resources and opportunities to encourage students, families, and staff to practice self-care in collaboration with community partners. SBUSD schools and district have a variety of people and services to help support our students and their families in our K-12 grade schools.

    High Schools: SBHS - SMHS - DPHS - Alta Vista - Middle College
  • We have campus-based therapists from CALM (elementary) and FSA (secondary), work with other agencies such as Hospice of SB, and virtual resources provided by both agencies as well as district staff, a district social work and youth outreach workers, as well as a Family Engagement Unit who can help families navigate support for a variety of needs. These include webinars, support groups, wellness sessions, and more.

Middle College is an independent study, dual enrollment program coordinated between the Santa Barbara Unified School District and Santa Barbara City College. It has been designed to help bridge the gap between high school and college. Middle College teachers provide support and direction to students attending classes on the SBCC campus. 11th or 12th grade students from any SBUSD High School may enroll in Alta Vista Alternative High School’s Middle College.
